A Celebration of Another German Tradition – Wine!
Fountain Hills Sister Cities organized a unique event sampling wines from regions around Germany and sister city Dierdorf. It was hosted by local German Restaurant Treffpunkt in Scottsdale.
"Friendship is a Fountain of Hope"
September 2025: The Fountain Hills Sister Cities organization took a much-needed break from the hot summer months. The team reconvened in September just in time to kick off planning for the Oktoberfest Festival. We debated the merits of and ultimately decided not to move forward with joining the local FHCCA group that had been previously suggested as a streamlining effort. The benefits did not outweigh what the Board felt were negatives. Planning is also underway for our 25th Anniversary Commemoration, likely to be held after the beginning of the year. An art-piece is proposed as a permanent monument to our 25th anniversary and it will likely be placed on the grounds at the FH Chamber of Commerce. FH High School student Reece Beers is named as new Student Abassador to the Sister Cities Team.
August 2025: Sister Cities showcased our lovely partner city Ataco El Salvador in a first of a series of cultural spotlights. The article was intended to generate interest on the part of our readers in the beauty and cultural richness of this fabulous community. When the timing is right, a delegation from FH Sister Cities plans to travel to Ataco to reestablish bonds with local municipal administrators and community organizers.
September 2025: Numerous announcements on social media and news outlets were organized to help spread the word about Oktoberfest in Fountain Hills. FH Sister Cities was proud to be named this year’s host. We hope to carry on this cultural tradition for years to come! Who better than us, right!?!
September 2025: Planning is underway to support the FH High School’s Student Exchange with Dierdorf Germany during the 2026 school year. Stay tuned, as there will be much more to tell about this exciting opportunity for our students, including a recruitment effort to find host families!
September 2025: FHSC Vice President Elizabeth Matej-Horchem reestablished communications between Fountain Hill’s newly elected Mayor and the newly elected Leader of Sister City Zamość Poland. Maintaining and strengthening these city-to-city bonds is an important element of the Sister Cities commitment to citizen diplomacy. In this way, (and so much more) we carry on the tradition of the Sister Cities movement begun by President Eisenhower in 1956.
