FHSC Business

July 2023, FHSC announced its annual membership and renewal drive as a part of our commitment to community outreach. Leaders with FHSC have chosen to extend our membership renewal enrollment period through the end of October, and it is our sincerest hope that our friends in the community who have been past loyal members will once again grace us with their participation by renewing with us. We of course, welcome all new members as well! Remember, your membership fees are fully deductible and are put to use supporting our most cherished and rewarding programs like humanitarian relief and student exchanges. Come Join Us Today!

Humanitarian Aid

September 2023, It is with the highest appreciation to our members, friends, and community business partners, that Fountain Hills Sister Cities announces October will mark the end of the fund drive for Ukrainian refugees in Zamosc.  With your help, Fountain Hills Sister Cities has donated $45,000 to this worthy cause. Every last dollar was sent to our friends in Zamość for assistance with the many refugees that even today, continue to arrive there from war-torn Ukraine.  We are forever grateful for your generous out-pouring of kindness; indeed, this has been one of the most exceptional and successful campaigns in our history, supporting our partner city Zamość, and the many thousands of Ukranian refugees. Thank you all so much!

In the coming months, the FHSC website will reflect a shift away from this incredibly successful donation program in favor of yet another of our sister cities, Ataco, that finds themselves too, in need of our special brand of community kindness and support.

It is our great pleasure to announce that this new donation program will be matched with a visit to our sister city Ataco, El Salvador in the spring of 2024, to meet with friends, and establish the guidelines for how to conduct this effort. Planning is in the very early stages, but there is much excitement surrounding this new humanitarian relief effort.

Looking back to 2012, Fountain Hills Sister Cities coordinated a similar humanitarian trip with some 40 students and three adults, with the purpose to participate in family shelter constructions, and to generally learn more about the culture and country. That trip was one of the most rewarding and mutually beneficial experiences FHSC has been a part of.

Our intent is to create a fund-raising program to provide healthy food packets for some 1,000 elderly residents and their families in Ataco who have been adversely impacted by declining coffee prices (the main source of income), recurring floods, and domestic instability. We seek to provide a glimmer of hope for our friends in the region. Stay tuned for more details!

Culture and Arts

September 2023, FHSC is proud to announce that October is the celebration of the German, Hispanic and Polish Heritage, when all the three of our Sister City Nations celebrate their Heritage in the United States. Mayor Dickey honored (now-retired) Consul to El Salvador, Enrique Melendez on September 19 with a proclamation for the Hispanic Heritage month. A similar proclamation for Germany and Poland will be presented by Mayor Dickey, on October 17 at the FH Town Hall.

Students and Educators

August 2023, On October 20, thirteen German students and three chaperones will arrive in Fountain Hills for two weeks staying with local students and their families, as part of our on-going commitment to international student exchanges. Student Exchange Coordinators, Luke Salzman and Chris Peterson have spent many hours preparing for an exciting time for the group. This year’s theme for the German students is to learn more about American family and school life, and will also be tasked with taking a closer look at the American sports philosophy. Fountain Hills Sister Cities is proud to partner with FH High School and is able to fund various planned excursions around our beautiful state for the German and FH students during their collaborative visit here.

In June 2024, a group of Fountain Hills students will then embark to Amsterdam and Dierdorf, Germany to explore life and sports themes there.

Student exchanges are one of the core missions of Sister Cities and we have supported numerous exchanges over the years between Fountain Hills, Dierdorf, Germany and Zamosc, Poland.  Please see the announcement Here and for any questions, see our Student Exchange page for ways for you to contribute or participate

Citizen Diplomacy

September 2023, FHSC is very proud to announce that on October 14 we will welcome some special international guests, Zamosc President Andrzej Wnuk, along with Mrs. Agnieszka Kowal (Director of Education for the Academy of Zamosc), and Mr. Jacek Pokoscielny (a local geographer and Radio Program Director). An informative visit around Fountain Hills and Arizona is planned or them during their short stay.

On Tuesday October 17 at 5pm Mayor Dickey will host a reception for our international visitors at the FH Town Hall. The public is invited. Please contact the FH Town Hall for more details.

Tourism

September 2023 FHSC will participate along with local art historian and event organizer, Paola Vojnovic, in a once-in-a-lifetime trip to spectacular and historic Venice Italy to attend this year’s much anticipated Carnevale celebration and to tour famous and private points of interest.
