Throughout 2022, the city of Zamość, Poland (60 kilometers from the Ukraine border) has taken in thousands of Ukranian refugees fleeing the ongoing Russian aggression in their country. The situation in Zamość has been followed closely here locally, as it happens to be one of our Fountain Hills Sister Cities.
To date, Fountain Hills Sister Cities (FHSC) has collected nearly $40,000 in donations through community outreach efforts, website donation methods, hosted donation drives with local businesses, and the generosity of significant individual contributors.
FHSC President Christine Colley and Treasurer Chandra Merica meet routinely at Midfirst Bank to ensure that donations in $10,000 increments are successfully transferred to Zamość city leaders to aid with humanitarian relief efforts for the suffering Ukranians.
Along with monetary donations, 13 boxes of school supplies were shipped to Zamość to support the displaced Ukraine children. This effort was inspired by students at Desert Mountain High School (DMHS), organized by DMHS educators, and delivered to Zamość by FHSC.
FHSC is dedicated to true partnerships with our Sister Cities, helping them in their time of greatest need. We are proud of the work we do and thank the Fountain Hills community at large for their understanding and continued support.
