We Make Good On A Promise......

Fountain Hills Sister Cities Ataco Chair Byron Roman recently stopped in Ataco, El Salvador, during his travels to Guatemala for a family visit. While in Ataco, Byron received a warm welcome from former Mayor Oscar Gomez, a longtime local partner and supporter of the sister city relationship.

During his visit, Byron assisted with the distribution of 280 food packages to elderly residents as part of a food drive sponsored by Fountain Hills Sister Cities. Each package contained essential staples intended to provide approximately two weeks of support for an individual. Recipients expressed their gratitude to Byron and to Fountain Hills Sister Cities for the thoughtful and generous contribution.

Sister Cities Thanks Community Residents For Their Generosity......

These food packages were made possible by an overwhelming show of support during our FH Sister Cities 2024-2025 fund-raising campaign for Ataco called “Meals-for Elders”.

It was a call to action for our generous and thoughtful community of Fountain Hills to help our beloved Sister City Ataco in a time of great need.

A heavy rain season struck Ataco back in 2024, causing devastating floods, landslides, and power outages. These cyclical natural disasters are a constant reminder of mother nature’s destructive forces, and severely impacted the community. It led to substantial crop loss, damage to housing, and disruption of local jobs. As a result, the need for additional funds became urgent to help this mountainous community by assisting and augmenting local recovery and rebuilding efforts.

The incredible giving nature of Fountain Hills residents was on full display as we rose to the occasion more than once with fund-raising efforts detailed in these past FH Sister Cities news stories.
