FH Sister Cities Provides Support to Ataco with “Meals For Elders” Program

Fountain Hills Sister Cities Donates $8,000 to Sister City Ataco, El Salvador, as Part of Ongoing "Meals for Elders" Humanitarian Relief Campaign

Fountain Hills Sister Cities recently launched a successful fundraising campaign to support the most vulnerable elderly population in our sister city of Ataco. Its purpose is to supply healthy staple food packages to reduce the risk of food insecurities that are common in the region.

Enrique Melendez, Honorary Consul Emeritus to El Salvador, recently hosted his brother Carlos Melendez (our Ataco contact) in Fountain Hills. Carlos agreed, upon return to his home country, to personally deliver a check for $8,000 from Fountain Hills Sister Cities. It will be hand-delivered to the newly elected regional Mayor Milla.

Supplies are sourced locally and roughly 500 packages of food are planned to arrive and be distributed throughout the community.

For more details on the food packages, please read about our initial fundraising campaign kick-off from February HERE!

Related Assistance We Are Planning...

In other matters, Fountain Hills Sister Cities is currently exploring seasonal agriculture and labor job opportunities in Arizona. We wish to assist and connect migrant farm workers from Ataco with farming industry needs here in the US. We are also researching a gift of a much-needed trash hauling vehicle to the City of Ataco.

If anyone has information on migrant job opportunities or a hauling truck available, please contact Byron Roman via the Sister City website HERE!
