Fountain Hills Sister Cities Members Travel to Historic Venice Italy to Attend the 2024 Carnevale Celebration

Fountain Hills Sister Cities members Christine Colley, Suzanne Nann, and Ruby Moreno embarked on a six-day journey of a lifetime to celebrate the Venetian Carnevale in early February 2024.

A journey through historical times was on the daily agenda that was expertly arranged by Paola Vojnovic, an Italian Renaissance Art Historian and Culture Manager. FHSC participants experienced popular Venetian sights with expert guides, including Doge’s Palace, Piazza San Marco, historical churches that are home to famous artists, the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, a 15th-century silk factory still in operation, a 400-year-old family gondola operation, and the world’s first ghetto.

The wide-eyed and wonderous FHSC members also enjoyed a spectacular dinner in a palace by the Grand Canale hosted by Paola’s friend, along with numerous other outstanding meals in quaint local restaurants.

The Crowd Was As Lively As It Was Colorful......

Many beautiful costumes and masked folks wandered the streets and canal bridges of Venice, and they were always ready to have their photo taken.

A superb highlight was the Chocolate Carnevale Ball, with about 500 guests donned in period costumes and masks. Sister Cities members felt part of the group as they wore rented costumes from a famous Venetian costume maker.

It was a special experience in the midst of this unique and historical gem!
