Donations for Ataco El Salvador

Masks were required for Stephany Pueschel of Midfirst Bank and Christine Colley of Fountain Hills Sister Cities who coordinated a $2,000 wire transfer to benefit our Sister City Ataco in El Salvador. The donation is a partial match of a $5,000 contribution already sent to Ataco by the Consular Corps of Arizona.

Tropical storm Amanda earlier this year leaves destruction through El Salvador.  Hundreds of Salvadoran families have had to evacuate their homes due to the devastation caused by tropical storm Amanda. Many if our friends in Ataco are affected by this devastation. “In the context of Covid-19, tropical storm Amanda has exacerbated the needs and vulnerabilities of children being left homeless, losing their belongings, including school supplies and have had to move to shelters to protect themselves,” says UNICEF Representative Yvette Blanco. Fountain Hills Sister Cities, Inc. is proud to be able to assist our friends in Ataco during these challenging times. We learned that a family of five in Ataco  lost their lives to COVID-19.

Fountain Hills Sister Cities was founded in 2000 and also maintains Sister City relationships with Dierdorf in Germany, Zamosc in Poland and Kasterlee, Belgium. Student inbound and outbound trips between Germany and Poland were cancelled this year due to COVID-19. An adult trip to Ataco planned for the fall is also deferred.
